Expected service life3–5 years with proper prep and two-coat application
Shelf lifeUp to 1 year, unopened, stored above freezing

    Coverage Rates

    • Residential driveways: ~65 sq ft/gallonMinimum coverage rate
    • Commercial (2-coat): ~40–50 sq ft/gallonVaries with surface texture
    • Heavy traffic areas: ~35–40 sq ft/gallonThird coat recommended

    Handling & Storage

    • Store sealed containers above freezing — a single freeze cycle ruins water-based emulsion in the drum or tote.
    • Keep containers tightly closed, out of direct sunlight, and away from ignition sources.
    • Standard PPE per the SDS: nitrile gloves, safety glasses, long sleeves.
    • Wash skin contact with soap and water before the emulsion dries.
    • Apply with air and pavement temperatures 50°F and rising, no rain forecast for 24 hours, humidity under 90%.

    Winter De-Icing

    Salt Brine De-Icing Liquid

Liquid sodium chloride brine produced for municipal and commercial anti-icing and pre-treatment programs.

    Performance Specifications

    PropertyValueTest method
Product typeSodium chloride brine (liquid anti-icer)
    Typical applicationPre-treatment / anti-icing ahead of a forecast storm
DeliveryBulk tanker and tote delivery across MT, ID, WA, ND, SD
StorageVented poly tank, protected from contamination and freezing slush

    Handling & Storage

    • Pre-treat before precipitation begins so brine has time to dry into a residual layer.
    • Agitate or recirculate stored brine before loading to keep the solution uniform.
    • Rinse spreader and truck components after use — chloride is corrosive to unprotected metal.

    Dust Control

    Dust Control Surfactant Program

Non-chloride, non-corrosive dust suppression for gravel roads, haul routes, and industrial yards.

    Performance Specifications

    PropertyValueTest method
    Product typeNon-chloride dust suppressant
CorrosivityNon-corrosive — no chloride loading on equipment or soils
Typical surfacesGravel roads, haul routes, industrial and equipment yards

    Handling & Storage

    • Grade and shape the road surface before application so the binder locks the existing fines.
    • Apply to a lightly moist surface for deeper penetration.
    • Plan reapplication around traffic volume and summer heat rather than a fixed calendar date.

    Documentation FAQ

    Submittals, SDS & Specifications

What procurement teams and contractors ask before writing us into a spec.

Where can I get the SDS for Pitch Black® sealer?
The Pitch Black® Safety Data Sheet is issued with every wholesale order and bid package, and we send it on request the same business day. Call (406) 309-SEAL or request it from this page and we will email the current revision along with the Technical Bulletin and the PRI Asphalt Technologies PAH test report.
What documentation proves a sealer is PAH-free for a bid or RFP?
Three documents: the third-party PRI Asphalt Technologies report showing EPA Method 8310 results for all 18 regulated PAHs at 0.00 ppm total, the Pitch Black® Technical Bulletin listing ASTM performance results, and the Safety Data Sheet confirming no asbestos fibers or carcinogenic materials. We attach all three to every bid and wholesale order.
What are the published technical specifications for Pitch Black® sealer?
Minimum 50% solids, ASTM D-3910 wet track abrasion of 35 g or less, ASTM D-562 viscosity of 75 KU minimum, Federal Spec TT-C-551B resistance to 98 mph wind-driven rain, and 0.00 ppm total PAH under EPA Method 8310. Expected service life is 3–5 years with proper prep and a two-coat application.
What is the coverage rate per gallon?
Roughly 65 sq ft per gallon on residential driveways, 40–50 sq ft per gallon on a two-coat commercial application, and 35–40 sq ft per gallon in heavy-traffic areas where a third coat is recommended. Rougher, more porous pavement consumes more material.
How should Pitch Black® be stored?
Above freezing, in sealed containers, out of direct sunlight and away from ignition sources. The product is a water-based emulsion, so a single freeze cycle in the drum or tote ruins it. Shelf life is up to one year in an unopened container.
Is a Safety Data Sheet required for a municipal pavement contract?
Most municipal, school district, and public agency specifications require an SDS for every product brought on site, and many now add coal-tar-free or PAH-limit language. We supply the SDS, technical data sheet, and third-party PAH testing as a standard part of the submittal package so procurement review does not stall.

    Need the Full Submittal Package?

We send the SDS, Technical Bulletin, and PRI Asphalt Technologies PAH test report with every bid and wholesale order — usually the same business day you ask.
