How deep does a bollard footing need to be?
For a standard 6-inch schedule 40 steel bollard taking light to moderate vehicle impact, we pour a 36-inch-deep, 18-inch-diameter concrete footing. K4/K12 anti-ram bollards go 48 to 72 inches deep with a rebar cage and an engineered footing per the manufacturer's drawing. Surface-mount-only bollards are rarely worth the install — first impact rips them out of the slab.
What size bollard do I need to stop a car?
A 6-inch schedule 40 steel bollard set in a 36-inch concrete footing will stop a passenger vehicle at typical parking-lot speeds (5 to 15 mph). To stop a commercial truck or stop a vehicle at higher speed, you need an engineered crash-rated bollard (ASTM F2656 K4 or K12). We help you size it based on actual approach geometry — not just "how big does it look."
How far apart should bollards be spaced?
ADA requires bollard spacing greater than 36 inches clear so wheelchairs and walkers pass through. Storefront protection typically runs 48 to 60 inches on center — close enough to stop a vehicle, far enough for a shopping cart. We measure based on the asset behind the bollards, not a generic rule.
Do you handle the asphalt or concrete cut?
Yes — saw cutting, core drilling, concrete pour, asphalt patch, and final stripe restoration are all part of the bid. One crew, one mobilization, one warranty.
Can you replace a bollard that's been hit?
Yes. We pull the damaged bollard and footing, re-pour, and reinstall with the original spec or upgrade to a heavier bollard if the impact history calls for it. Most replacements take a single day per bollard.
