What OSHA standards apply to warehouse floor marking?
OSHA 1910.22(b) requires permanent aisles and passageways to be appropriately marked. ANSI Z535.2 sets the color code most warehouses follow (yellow for aisles, red for fire equipment, etc.). We mark to both — OSHA for compliance, ANSI for the visual standard your safety auditor expects.
What paint do you use on warehouse concrete?
Two-component epoxy for high-traffic cells and aisles where forklifts and pallet jacks live. Acrylic traffic paint for lower-traffic informational markings. Cold-applied tape is an option for lanes that need to change quarterly. We spec based on the floor sealer, dwell time, and how many wheels cross per shift.
How long does warehouse floor marking last?
Epoxy aisle lines on sealed concrete typically run 3 to 5 years under heavy forklift traffic. Acrylic traffic paint lasts 18 to 36 months in similar conditions. Tape lasts 6 to 24 months. We document the spec on every job so the next refresh matches the original layout.
Do you do floor marking layout from scratch?
Yes. We walk the floor with the operations lead, lay chalk lines for forklift swing radii and aisle widths (OSHA recommends at least 3 feet wider than the widest vehicle), and produce a marked-up site plan before paint touches the floor. CAD overlay is available for larger sites.
Can you mark a warehouse without shutting it down?
Yes. We work zone-by-zone over second and third shift, or weekends. Most 50,000 sq ft warehouses get re-marked in 2 to 3 nights without disrupting production.
