From Montana Sealcoat & Plow to Summit Surface Partners: New Name, Same Family, Same Standard

Some companies are born in boardrooms. Ours was born on a driveway in the Flathead Valley with a husband, a wife, and the kind of stubborn optimism that only comes from having absolutely nothing to fall back on.

Where It All Started

Nine years ago, we launched Montana Sealcoat & Plow — just the two of us. My wife was born in Libby and raised in Kalispell, and I'd fallen in love with this corner of Montana the same way most people do: completely and permanently. We didn't have investors or a business plan written by consultants. We had a truck, a work ethic, and a growing family to feed.

The early days were exactly what you'd expect. We knocked on doors. We cold-called. We showed up early, stayed late, and said yes to every job we could handle — and a few we probably shouldn't have. But every parking lot we sealed, every driveway we protected, and every snow-covered lot we cleared built something that mattered: a reputation.

Growing Into Something Bigger

Word of mouth is a powerful thing in small-town Montana. One HOA tells another. A property manager recommends you to a colleague. A municipality awards you a second contract, then a third. Year after year, the work kept coming — and we kept growing to meet it.

We added equipment. We added crew members. We expanded from driveways into commercial parking lots, from parking lots into municipal roads, and from sealcoating into a full range of surface services including salt brine de-icing and dry ice blasting.

Then came the biggest step yet: we built our own sealcoat manufacturing plant and developed Pitch Black®, our proprietary asphalt emulsion sealer. For the first time, we controlled the entire process — from formulation to application — which meant we could guarantee a level of quality that off-the-shelf products simply can't match.

The Rebrand: Why Summit Surface Partners

By 2026, we'd outgrown our original name. Montana Sealcoat & Plow told people what we did in one state. But we weren't just in Montana anymore. We were serving contractors and property owners across Idaho, Eastern Washington, North Dakota, and South Dakota — with a wholesale distribution network spanning over 500 communities.

What Hasn't Changed

Here's what matters most: the rebrand changed our name, not our values. The same family that knocked on doors nine years ago is still running this company today. We're still based in the Flathead Valley. We're still raising our five kids in these communities. And we still answer the phone when you call.
